Canelo Alvarez recently just made a fuss about him facing Gennady Golovkin, if he wins against Miguel Cotto this November 21. Cotto vs Canelo is set for the WBC Middleweight Championship at the Mandalay Bay Events, Las Vegas.
WBC has stated that the Golovkin-Lemieux winner will face the upcoming Cotto vs Canelo winner. Canelo has been optimistic that he’ll take home the belt and has expressed that he wants to fight Golovkin at a 155 catch-weight. Canelo’s plans may or may not be in favor for him.
Golovkin finished off Lemieux few weeks ago at the Madison Square Garden. This led him to grab the IBF belt in addition to his WBA and IBO belts. Golovkin showed his best during that fight and very proud of his new achievement. However, with the 155 demand of Canelo, Golovkin may not give in to this.
Tom Loeffler, director of K2 Promotions, stated that the team does not have any plan yet for Golovkin. They may come up with plans after the Cotto vs Canelo bout. Golovkin aims to unify all the titles but, it is too soon to decide for his forthcoming fights. What matters now is for Canelo to win for him to fight Golovkin in 155.
